I first discovered the Woods Hollow property in 2013 when I was contacted by a couple that was getting married there. Located in Westford it was a very short drive from home and I expected a typical rural farmhouse. I was instantly in love when I arrived at this stunning property both because of its amazing green mountain views and because of the eclectic mix of traditional, industrial and modern design. Located on a dirt road, the house was a complete surprise and a prime candidate for an architecture photography shoot.
This past year I got to know the house’s owners who were planning their own wedding there. I convinced them to let me schedule an architectural shoot this past spring.
At the risk of sounding silly, I was giddy with excitement for this shoot. Literally. I love the materials and detailing in the home that contributes to its unique character. Massive windows make for beautiful interior light and offer expansive views. You can also enjoy the view from covered colonial style porch and the cozy cupola outfitted with with wraparound window seats. Over the course of two days I photographed both interiors and exteriors and captured some video and drone footage which I’m still working on editing. It was an exhaustive shoot but I wanted to take full advantage of the opportunity and have fun playing with some new techniques and equipment at the same time.

With lots of natural light pouring in, the camera can’t capture the complete tonal range that your eye can. Many turn to HDR for help but this often results in muddy, unrealistic looking images. Most of my shots are composites combining bracketed exposures both with and without added off-camera light. The goal is always to retain a natural appearance by enhancing not overdoing. Here are some before and after images to demonstrate the difference the extra post production makes.
