Sunny Blue & Yellow Wedding | Derby Pond Barn | Andrew + Valerie

Andrew and Valerie’s DIY Vermont wedding is sure to make your day a little brighter. An at home wedding ceremony followed by a reception at The Derby Pond Barn in Vermont. There was gleaming sun and blue sky to match all the blue and yellow decor details.

The ceremony was at Valerie’s parent’s home near Newport Vermont which is a beautiful part of the state. I knew I was working with a creative couple when I pulled up and saw an amazing reclaimed doorway set up as the entrance to the outdoor ceremony. When I arrived, Andrew was drafting a note to Valerie to be delivered with the gifts he had for her. In addition to a pretty necklace Valerie was officially welcomed into “Team Nye”.

Valerie’s maid of honor was her longtime childhood friend and neighbor. I can picture lots of moments in front of the very same mirror they used for prepping as they were growing up.

Outside it was bright and beautiful and the guests were arriving. Attendants briskly traveled across the street as the ceremony neared its start. Right away the little flower girl and ring bearer stole the show. It’s always cute with the little ones involved, whether they are happy or not. But Valerie took center stage once the reclaimed doors opened for her to walk down the aisle with her father.

After the ceremony, family and wedding party members hung back to use the sunny hilltop for the group photos. I posed the couple in the lush meadow, on the hay bale seating for the ceremony, and of course used doorway.

On the way to the reception at the Knoll Barn we had time to make a quick stop on a rural dirt road so the couple could take a walk together. The stunning light was still shining on us once we arrived at the barn.

It was my first time at the Derby Pond Barn. There were plenty of fitting rustic details. The night kicked off with the couple entering through a tunnel of arms of the wedding party. Very touching parent dances had all the guests crying. The couple set up a a fun photobooth upstairs in the barn. Guests played lawn games outside until it got too dark. But the twilight was a good opportunity to place the couple under an exterior goose neck lamp for a blue light photo.

Dinner was by Dancing Sails Catering. The party was DJ’d by Dave Bennet.A very cute little observer watched the girls dancing from the barn doorway. Video was captured through the eyes of Melissa Zaldivar with For the Record Productions. There was an assortment of sweet treats to sample, including a cake by Laura Bouchard, local ice cream from Tim & Doug’s, cookies by Sonja Ranslow and pies by Valerie’s own grandmother. Dessert was a great way to end the night! Congratulations Andrew and Valerie, such a sweet and deserving couple!
