Garden Wedding | Essex Resort | Will + Jess

In early September, I was lucky enough to shoot at the beautiful Essex Resort. It was a great sunny day with all of the usual anticipation. It was extra special for Will and Jessica since Will had just taken a new job and the couple was going to be moving to California a week after the wedding. It was not only a chance for them to celebrate with family but to see all the special people in their lives before they headed to the other side of the country.

I got to know this couple during their engagement session at the Shelburne Vineyard so I was looking forward to seeing them again. As I always love to do, I started my day capturing the preparation details of the ladies. Jess’s dress was full of vintage charm. Jess’s “something borrowed” was a beautiful cameo ring lent to her by her mother. Will got ready in another room and his nerves were apparent.

Blessed with sunny weather, the ceremony was held outside in the gardens. The ceremony programs were printed on fans to cool overheated guests. Will paced on the patio as he waited behind the scenes with his best man. As the ceremony commenced the attendants walk along the long hedge before turning the corner and appearing before the crowd. Jess was escorted by her Mom and Dad down the aisle. The ceremony was brief but full of laughter.

After the group portraits were done, I sought out cool shady spots to pose the couple. The landscaping around the Resort is so lush and beautiful that we stopped frequently.

The cocktail hour took place outside on the private sunny stone patio. A crepe station served guests delicious treats.

The ballroom was luminous. Will and Jess’s first dance started formal but ended with a unique performance by Will. During the festivities we paused a few times to take in the sunset and to gather Will and Jess’s friends in the library for serious group pose.

Congratulations to Will and Jess and I hope that you are settling in nicely in California!!

Beautiful images Stina — you have a mastery over depth of field and captured some absolutely wonderful expressions! Bravo!

Stina, these are lovely! I love how the couple faced their ceremony toward the arch instead of the gazebo. That bike path in the middle of the ceremony has always bugged me! Anyway, back to the pretty wedding…loved the bride’s dress and all of the yummy details. The fans were a great idea! Awesome job!

Yes! So much better, I’m not a big gazebo fan myself either. That was my first time shooting a ceremony there and it was fabulous!
