Fall Wedding at The Old Lantern | Melanie + Michael

My last event of the season was a fall wedding at The Old Lantern for Melanie and Michael. It was the bookend to my season that began and ended at the rustic spot. Fall said farewell that day with blustery temperatures and snow. But it didn’t matter to anyone inside the warm and welcoming barn.  The festive decor including floral design by Clayton Floral and seasonal color scheme was still a perfect autumn view for guests.

I watched as Melanie put on her gown with her Mom quietly beaming beside her. While the guests filtered in, Michael was tucked away in the barn’s bridal suite laughing with his groomsmen and reading a note from Melanie.

The ceremony, officiated by Annie Alexander-Kramer, was short and sweet. The couple spoke their vows and placed a favorite bottle of wine in a custom box to be opened on their fifth anniversary. Included were notes to each other to be read the day they open the box. As Melanie and Michael walked down the aisle as a newly married couple, they shared one of my favorites “just married” looks I’ve seen as a wedding photographer.

I lucked out with the weather and was saved from the worst of it until the last few shots. The Old Lantern’s front porch always works as a safety spot for group portraits when it’s sprinkling and muddy. In my years of shooting this has saved my butt many times during a fall wedding at the Old Lantern! The cover of a nearby bridge was all I needed for a secluded spot to get some portraits of the couple. Before the couple became too chilled and the rain started pouring down, I was able to get some of my favorite shots of the day.

The rest of the evening we were safe inside basking in the light of candles, the happy toasts of friends and family and the glow of the happy couple. They kicked off their evening with their first dance and followed up with speeches as dinner was served. There were plenty of tears during the parent dances but my favorite moment was when the groom’s dad rushed out to embrace his son and wife at the end of their dance. The crowd got moving after dinner thanks to Mark from Top Hat Entertainment. And everyone, young and old, was out on the dance floor for the rest of the night (a testament to a great DJ).I stole the couple for a few minutes to try for one last romantic shot and this is what we captured. Congratulations Melanie and Michael!!

And just like that the 2016 wedding season was over! It was a great year with so many awesome couples that I was so lucky to be able to work with.
