It was a perfect summer day in June when Cary and Jennifer had their Grand Isle Lake House wedding in Vermont. After spending many summers on Lake Champlain, Jennifer was sure this was the place she wanted to get married. The Grand Isle Lake House was the perfect setting reminding Jennifer of the camp where she spent her summers enjoying Vermont. Hailing from Nashville, the couple decided it was more than worth it to make the wedding a destination. Especially given the prospect of the hot summer temps in Tennessee. Added bonus was the ample room for traveling guests, including most of Cary’s Tennessee family.
When I arrived it was hard to tell if Jennifer was more excited or nervous because she appeared so calm. Her hair and makeup were done by Holly Coons. Her austere gown was lighter than air. Almost lighter than the lace curtains I used as a backdrop. I got some insight into this bride’s quirky side when I saw her yellow Chuck Taylor wedding sneakers. The whole wedding party wore the same to match. Jennifer was classic with a silk flower hair accessory, pearl bracelet and antique garter but the shoes added a touch of spunk.
Cary was similarly calm but there were a few moments throughout the day when I caught glimpses of emotion. When Jennifer walked down the aisle, the tears were there even if only for an instant.
The ceremony was brief and the reception was casual but so much fun. The white bouquet with blue centered white anemones from Wild Hare Flowers were somehow subtle and bold at the same time. It was wrapped with yellow ribbon to match the shoes and the yellow paper lanterns strung on the porch to carry the sunny theme. My Little Cupcake provided the sweet after dinner treats for guests to snack on at their leisure. And Jason Baron from Wedding DJ VT mixed for the crowd to keep them on the dance floor. They danced, spent time with family and friends so rarely all together and even had time to enjoy the sunset a bit. It was a perfect day for this laid-back couple. Congratulations Cary and Jennifer!
