Interior Design Photos | Architecture Photographer | Newport Vermont
Well, it’s been a while! Blogging very easily slips to the bottom of the priority list when the going gets busy but here we are…time to catch up. I’ll start by sharing some of my favorite photos of an interior design project by Rachel Belden Interior Design. Rachel found me through my Houzz profile and reached out because I was so close to the project location. Her firm is based in Connecticut and New York but she recently completed the interior design of her family’s own lake home in Newport Vermont.
I’ve learned that you never know what to expect in Vermont. I drove to Newport and began to wind my way towards the house on a lake shore road with some amazing views of Lake Memphramagog. The area and the home are very special to Rachel and her family. Her husband’s family summers on an island in that same part of the lake. She and her husband visited often and patiently waited over the years for a piece of mainland property across from the island to be up for sale. They scooped up the parcel as soon as it went up for sale.
Lake homes in Vermont can be anything from tiny rustic camps to giant adirondack getaways. Rachel’s home was a pleasant surprise. The traditional gray cedar shake siding contrasted with crisp white trim and two fun turquoise doors. That was in instant hint at the modern design within. Inside, I found a home that was bright, well-styled and cozy. It was deliciously inviting. I could see myself cooling off on a hot day on the porch with an icy beverage and the lake breeze. I could also see myself snuggling into the couch on a winter day with a book and some cocoa and a crackling fire in the large stone hearth.
The shot list Rachel was aiming for was comprehensive so it took the better part of a day to capture all of the spaces. Rachel was on hand to help with styling and staging but she was also good company. We had a good time chatting about our kids.
Rachel describes the interior design style as shabby chic but there’s a good dose of contemporary design too. She does a great job of layering fabrics and mixing in rustic pieces like woven baskets, antiques and wood accents. There are also modern elements in bright pops of color, the crisp white kitchen and some funky light fixtures. It was such a treat to shoot this project. It was also so fun to work with Rachel who was on hand to style and stage. We had some good chats about our kids. I so wish she was based closer so that I would have more opportunities to work together! Have a look at some of my favorites from the shoot.
