This past August I started the month with the first of two trips I made to Lake Placid this year. I was excited to be meeting Brendan and Laura for their wedding and to be shooting in a totally new spot. Since I went on a scouting trip back in the spring I had so many ideas for photos that I couldn’t wait to shoot.
I started at Laura’s parents’ lake home where the girls were busy getting ready. Their home was stunning and filled to the brim with the fantastic colors Laura had picked for all the details of the day. You can see the vibrant bridesmaids flowers below. The rustic wood interior of the house was the perfect setting for detail photos of the bride’s vintage-inspired dress and shoes. The beaded purse was one that had belonged to her grandmother.
The house was surrounded by lush flower gardens making a great setting for a beautiful bride. One treat for me was shooting the trolley car that whisked the girls off to the ceremony. I love unusual modes of transportation.
The inside of the St. Eustace Episcopal Church where the ceremony was held had the same rustic mountain flavor. The wood gave this warm and cozy glow making ceremony moments seem so much more intimate. Once or twice the couple exchanged whispers during the ceremony.
The couple made their way through a flower petal tossing tunnel of guests after the ceremony. The horse-drawn carriage that took them to the reception was straight out of a fairytale.
The reception was held at the Lake Placid Club Golf Resort that was surrounded by stunning views of the Adirondacks. The sunny late-summer day made the setting just happy. A mountain theme carried through the reception in all the details, including the birch cake.
Group portraits were set against the Adirondack mountains. In one shot you can see the ski jump from the 1980 Winter Olympics in the background.
Once the fun began it was non-stop. The party jumped into overdrive after dinner when Right On hit the stage in their authentic disco get-ups to rock out the rest of the night. I’ll be honest, that link doesn’t do that band justice. I think there were very few people who weren’t tempted out of their seats!
I always try to find that moment later in the night when the couple reconnects and soaks in the joy of the day together and I think I found it that night. Congratulations to Brendan and Laura!
