On Location Headshots | Fairfield VT
I had the pleasure of photographing headshots for another local candidate for the Vermont State Senate who I’ve also known for quite some time. Over the years I’ve photographed both of Sara’s daughters’ weddings in addition to previous headshot sessions. I also photographed her many times for the St. Albans Messenger while she was serving at the time in the Vermont Senate. After giving up her seat a few years ago, Sara has chosen to run again. To update her headshots, she wanted a look that tied into her family roots in Fairfield. It was perfect timing to use a family sugarhouse as a backdrop. While we lucked out with fabulous weather, it was very bright mid-afternoon light which posed some lighting challenges. The use of off-camera lighting and reflectors for fill enabled me to provide flattering light for Sara’s portrait and still capture the background landscape. The shots came out great with a very personal feel.
We popped into the busy sugarhouse for a few shots too. The walls of stacked wood were a unique take on studio shots.
We took the opportunity to get a family shot with Sara’s brothers who were nice enough to pause from their hard work.
Fairfield has such a stunning landscape and I’m always happy to shoot there. Since moving out of Fairfield three years ago, I still miss the sound of the generator running the sugarhouse that was around the corner from our home. That always signaled the true arrival of spring for me.
Sometimes the absence of leaves on the trees can be an advantage. It makes for a nice neutral background that’s less distracting.
