Elegant Golf Course Wedding | Vermont National Country Club | Tom + Kelly

I was really looking forward to photographing Tom and Kelly’s Vermont National Country Club wedding in South Burlington, Vermont. It was my first time at the venue so it promised to be a day of discovery and new opportunities. I envisioned whisking the couple around the stunning golf course grounds capturing some sweeping views.

And then the day came and it was raining. Well, really pouring.

Admittedly, rain is not something a photographer always looks forward to. Don’t get me wrong…rain can provide some great creative opportunities. But a drenching rain is pretty difficult to work around unless at the expense of suits, wedding gowns, and camera equipment. So I approached the day with the quiet resolve to make the most of it and hope for the best. Fortunately luck was on my side!

Upon arrival the tables were just about finished being prepped so I had time to take in the refreshing purple and lavender color scheme. Vermont National’s coordinator Emily did a fabulous job with details and timing. Maple syrup favors were provided by Butternut Mountain Farm Store. The flowers by Randy at Silver Toad Floral Design fit perfectly. The Little Purple Cake Shoppe provide the sweet treats.

Before the ceremony, Kelly and her daughter had some nice mother-daugher moments. Kelly’s son and daughter and Tom’s niece were simply too cute. The girls had their makeup done by Beatriz Jarvais.

Vermont National has a perfect rain location…their expansive covered porch. Fran Taylor and the Green Taylor Ensemble played during the ceremony. Kelly’s Fiori wedding dress was perfect. And during the ceremony, the rain slowed to a stop.

We fit in most of the group portraits on the porch since the grounds were still damp. But even on a sunny day this would probably have been the best location. Then that luck kicked in. Dry skies meant I was still able to take the couple around for just a little bit to take advantage of some of the property’s best spots. Blue skies appeared!

Sometimes after the gloomiest day, you get a spectacular technicolor sunset. We ended the night with a little sparkle. Rain or shine a wedding day is perfect either way. But the shine sure does help! Congratulations Tom and Kelly!
