Woodstock Inn Winter Elopement | Jason + Tracy

I want to share a recent special wedding I photographed while it’s still the right season. A few months ago I got a call from Jason who was looking for a someone to photograph his upcoming wedding to fiancé Tracy at the Woodstock Inn in Vermont in January. This would be different from most of the weddings I shoot not only because it was one of those rare winter weddings but also because it was just going to be the two of them. After trying to plan a wedding they soon realized that it would be a better option, for a bunch of reasons, to keep the whole thing very intimate. Even though I was planning on starting my maternity break in January, this was one of those things I just couldn’t pass up. And both Jason and Tracy were just so nice, who could resist!

The goal of the shoot was to capture some great couple portraits, head inside for a brief ceremony and then finish off with a few more shots. Woodstock, Vermont is one of those quintessential small towns that looks great in any season so I was really excited to take the couple out around town. It was chilly, but maybe it was that wedding day glow that kept the couple warm.

We started at Woodstock’s Middle Bridge. Then we skipped into town where many of the cute shops still had holiday decorations up. Throw in some great historical architecture and it frames a couple up pretty nicely! I wanted to get at least few shots that were a little more urban looking and incorporate some local signage for some photos with references to the setting.

I found this great red door just around the corner from the Inn that matched Tracy’s shoes perfectly. Directly across from the Inn is a cute little park and I brought along a blanket to help the two cozy up.

We headed inside to thaw out and get ready for the ceremony. The words were mostly written by Tracy and it was very sweet. It was so nice to experience a ceremony that was missing all the distractions.

As planned we went back outside the Inn for a few more shots. Tracy decided it was time for the winter boots, but I’m a girl who enjoys practical shoes. A few windows inside the Inn were nice spots for the couple.

As the light dimmed we drove to the last spot which was a nearby bridge with historic lampposts. I think I squeezed every last ounce of smile out of these two but they were so much fun to work with. Congratulations to Jason and Tracy and I’m so honored that you chose me to capture your day!

Tracy & Jason – Congratulations! You are a beautiful couple. I almost stumbled across this the other day before getting your card – that would have been a fun surprise. Your card was a great surprise, too. So sweet! Stina did such a great job of capturing your special day, I felt like I was there…all teared up and everything. We’ll have a toast one day! All my love, Jen
